12/01  Mumien som inte kunde sova

Mumien som inte kunde sova

I’ve composed music together with Oliver Börnfelt for Jesper Tillberg’s radio theatre show, book and CD “Mumien som inte kunde sova” (The Mummy Who Couldn’t Sleep). It was aired on Sveriges Radio (Swedish Public Radio) in October and November of 2006.

The challenge was to create a hybrid between ancient egyptian folk music, modern electronica and a slightly bombastic, Indiana Jones-styled matiné soundtrack.

I purchased a Ney flute in Istanbul because I found the timbre to be perfectly in line with the sound we set out to create. However, learning how to play the Ney turned out to take much longer time than expected, so I finally had to resort to my trusty old Bamboo flute that I got in the Phillippines in 2003. It worked out well, but I’m looking forward to a project where I’ll be forced to take my (fledgling) Ney skills to another level.

Anyways, have a listen to some of the tracks by opening the full experience in the top section of this page, then entering the section “The Semi Secret Sonic Identity Master”.

09/19  How to say goodbye

How To Say Goodbye (EP)

A dub remix of Radio LXMBRG’s song “How to say goodbye”. Released on the EP “How to say goodbye”.

Listen to the track by opening the full experience in the top section of this page, then entering the section “Wonderful Gifts For Your Ears”. It’s right there in the music player, amigo.

You can buy it online at cdon.com or get it at iTunes music store.

The idea was to morph the classic Radio LXMBRG sound (a synthesis of bombastic film soundtrack, french 60’s pop, british 80’s and german krautrock) into a suggestive, dubby electronica trip.

04/07  Alonely

leafy

Our track “Alonely” is featured on Nordic Lounge Vol. 3. We released it under the name “Slug”.

The track is essentially about urban loneliness. And about finding a special someone that chases away the blues and makes you feel alive, amidst grey concrete, suffocating smog and the blank stares of subway travellers.

Now, there’s an interesting twist to the story. I accidentally ran into my next-door neighbour, Ben Kirk, who turned out to be an amazingly talented trumpet and trombone player. So we became good friends and started jamming together. Alonely is one of the results of our collaboration. Then Marcus brought his percussional skills to my home studio and recorded a funky conga set. Finally, Joanna came by and laid down some beautiful vocals on top. The vocal track is unreleased, but available for listen in the music player.

You can listen to the track by opening the full experience in the top section of this page, then entering the section “Wonderful Gifts For Your Ears”. It’s right there in the music player, dude.

If you dig the track, you can get the whole album from Amazon.
